Seminar on Solar Energy

Advisors

Audience

The seminar targets audiences interested in sustainability and renewable energies. It is well suited for students majoring in computational engineering (CE), advanced optical technologies (MAOT), materials science, electrical engineering and energy technologies.

A preliminary discussion was held on 22nd of July 2011 at 9:00am in room 0.111.

Topics

The seminar covers a wide range of topics starting from fundamental principles to manufacturing technologies and methods of system simulation as well as large scale power plants and possible use scenarios of solar energy. In particular, different types of photovoltaics and technologies for harvesting solar energy thermally can be discussed.

  • Thermal use of solar energy:
    • Solar cooling
    • Low-temperature solar systems
    • High-temperature solar systems
  • Photovoltaics:
    • Cell technologies
    • Panel technology
    • Grid-driven photovoltaics
    • Insular systems

Time and Place

There was a first short meeting in room 0.68 (Martensstr. 7) at 9:15 am on Wed, Oct 26th to discuss organizational aspects.

The seminar will consist of four sessions. The dates, time and place are Wednesdays 9:00am to 12:00pm in room 0.68 (Martensstr. 7) on:

  • Jan 11
  • Jan 18
  • Jan 25
  • Feb 01

Each session will consist of three or four talks.
