Research Interests
- Laser simulation
The main part in the numerical simulation of solid state lasers and
semiconductor lasers is the numerical simulation of the optical beam.
We are mainly interested in the simulation of long resonators,
such that standard FE simulation cannot be applied.
We are currently working on new concepts to simulate optical beams
in laser resonators by a time dependent Gauss-mode analysis and new
FE-dicretizations.
A software on laser simulation can be obtained by
ASLD.
- Simulation of Thin Film Solar Cells
Thin film solar cells are a cheap and highly efficient technology to generate
renewable energy. To improve the efficiency of these cells the light trapping
and the optical properties of these cells have to be improved.
To this end, high performance computing for solving Maxwell's equations
is needed. Our research groups cooperates with other research groups
and companies to provide highly
efficient simulations of the optical properties of thin film solar cells.
- High performance computing
The efficient implementation of numerical algorithms is difficult
and time consuming. Using expression templates and other object oriented
approaches we develop new concepts and libraries to ease the
implementation of numerical algorithms.
