Research Interests
My main research interest is within the scope of the Innonet-project
Simulation and Optimization of Innovative Laser Systems (SOL). The goal of this project is to improve the numerical simulation of diode-pumped solid-state lasers (DPSS) and to extend the functionality of the industrial laser simulation software LASCAD. As a first step we developed a "Dynamic Multimode Analysis(DMA)" to simulate
- power output
- beam quality, mode competition
- pulse shape of active Q-switch lasers
- (super-) gaussian mirrors and general aperture effects
For this purpose, we simulate optical effects by specific resonator eigenmodes, inclding thermal lensing, and the dynamic behavior of the laser by modified, space-dependent rate equations.
Furthermore, we develop a finite element methode for a dynamic 3D simulation of the laser. Here, the main task is to solve a Helmholtz equation for very high wave numbers. First results will be shown at Photonics West 2009 (San Jose) and Advanced Solid-State Photonics 2009 (Denver).
