Lattice Boltzmann method:
Brownian motion of nano particles

Supervision:

Background:

One of the physical important processes in the simulation of micro and nano
particles is Brownian motion, as for particles of these sizes the thermal
fluctuation of the fluid cannot be neglected any more. For the LBM there exists
a stochastic LBM model which is able to describe the Brownian motion of the
fluid. The aim of this thesis is the implementation and validation of moving micro/nano
particles (spheres) inside a fluid for which Brownian motion is taken into
account. The work will be incorporated into the waLBerla project.

Tasks:

  • Implementation of the stochastic LBM
  • Brownian forces for the particles
  • Incorporation of moving obstacles into the waLBerla project
  • Validation of the approach
  • Visualization of the results

Useful knowledge:

  • Basic LBM knowledge
  • Advanced C++ programming
