Lattice Boltzmann method: Electroosmotic flow in micro channels
Supervision:
Background:
Electroosmotic flow is the motion of ions through very narrow channels,
where the fluid flow is induced by the application of a potential across the channel.
Electroosmotic flow is an essential component for various micro fluidic applications,
e.g.: lab-on-a-chip technology.
The aim of this thesis is the implementation of a hybrid LBM which is capable of the
simulation of fluid mixtures containing ions and the implementation of an
Multigrid solver for the solving of the Poisson-Boltzmann equation for the
potential. The work will be incorporated into the waLBerla project.
Tasks:
- Implementation of a hybrid LBM
- Multigrid solver for the potential
- Movement of the ions due to the potential
- Validation of the approach
- Visualization of the results
Useful knowledge:
- Basic LBM knowledge
- Advanced C++ programming
